Day 4 of Jazz Festival drums up excitement

Among the artists who performed Monday is one from Ghana. Paa Kow comes from a small village and didn’t have electricity until he was 13-years-old.

He started playing drums by stringing together metal cans, and he said it all started when he was seven years old – with a cowbell.

“I was playing bells,” he said, “and I got to jump on congas, and it was fun. And then, naturally, I started playing drums. From then, I’ve been playing drums.”

The setup for Paa Kow’s show at the Montage Music Hall included a gigantic drum set. He will be playing all week at the festival.
